Club walk Sunday 6th February 2022

Portumna forest and lake walk. Duration: 2.5 hours approx. Meet Portumna Golf Club car park on the Woodford Road at 10am. Boots or trail shoes. Please bring some snacks or cash/card  as coffee shop en route. If lifts required meet at Gullane's car park at 9.20am but please notify walk leaders Patricia Duggan/Bríd Lyons in advance. Club walk Sunday 23rd January 2022

Slieve Blooms, Co. Offaly. Looped walk (Paul's Lane/Magherabane/Spink/Silver River).  Moderate. 9 kms/ 3 hrs approx. Meet car park Dempsey's pub, Cadamstown at 10.30am. Mixed terrain. Boots with good grip advised as it's mucky up there. Great walk for novice hillwalkers. Bring gear and lunch. Leader: F. Maguire.

The highest point of the walk is the Spink (328m OD). The name derives from the Irish word An Spinc meaning 'a steep precipice' (https://www.logainm.ie/en/41466). We'll be going up the gentler side though.

Thursday 13th January 2022: Registration and deposit for Mayo weekend away.

Registration for the Mayo weekend away will take place on Thursday 13th January 2022 in Gullane's Hotel between 7 and 8pm. A deposit of €50 per person is required. Places are on a first come, first served, basis.

The trip will take place on the weekend of 24th-26th June. Accommodation is in the Wyatt Hotel Westport. The rate for two nights B&B (Friday and Saturday night) plus one dinner is €165 per person sharing. Although the Covid situation may have changed by June, please read carefully the current hotel requirements in relation to digital certs/vaccinations/ID before paying your deposit.

There will be a choice of two walks on Inishturk Island on Saturday 24th June. The A walk is the Mountain Common Loop and includes the signal tower as well as Buachaill Mór and Buachaill Beag panoramic viewing point. Easy to moderate grade/2.5 hours approx. The B walk is the Lough Coolaknick Loop and includes Portdoon Lagoon. Easy grade/1.5 hours approx. 

Ferry departs Roonagh pier 10.45am on Saturday and returns from Inishturk pier at 5.15pm. Cost: €24 per person. 

Food and refreshments are available at Caher View restaurant on the island, which overlooks the harbour with panoramic coastal views of Croagh Patrick and Mweelrea.

Club walk Sunday 9th January 2022

First walk of 2022 and a perfect opportunity to try out the new gear Santa delivered. 

Woodlawn forest walk, Co. Galway. Grade: Easy. Distance: 10kms. Duration: 2 hours approx. Meet at Woodlawn train station at 10am. Boots required. 

Leaders: Geraldine Quinn and Bríd Barrett. 

As Covid recommendations still apply, names in advance to walk leaders. Although we are all fed up with it, the first walk of the year is a good time to remind members that it is your personal responsibility to adhere to public health guidelines. You should not attend walks if you have any of the symptoms of Covid 19 or are a close contact of a confirmed case.
