Club walk Sunday April 3rd 2022

Slieve Bawn, Co. Roscommon in support of the Climb with Charlie campaign.

Car pool from Gullane’s carpark at 9am sharp. Tea/coffee/toilet stop at Inver petrol station in Knockcroghery village at 9.40am. The walk, which is easy/moderate grade, will start from Slieve Bawn carpark at 10.30am sharp. Distance: 12.5kms. Duration: 3.5 hrs. There will be an option after 2.5hrs to finish walk for those who might find the full walk to long. Trail shoes will suffice. Bring lunch and sufficient water/fluids. Leader: Liam Roche. 

Directions

1.7kms after Knockcroghery village, take right turn onto L1806 signposted Kilteevan. Continue straight on for 7kms, then take right turn onto N63 Roscommon – Longford road. After 1.2kms take left turn onto L1425 signposted Slieve Bawn Recreation, Strokestown, Ballagh. Continue straight on for 8.4kms. Watch out for two haysheds on right with roofs painted green. Immediately afterwards there is a house on the side of the road with two columns at front door entrance. 100m further on is right turn signposted Slieve Bawn. After taking this right turn , continue on for 1.8km. The car park is on the right, 100 metres past first wind turbine.

If  the car park is full there is ample parking in front of Turbine No 20, the first turbine you meet on the way in.

As this is our contribution to the nationwide events held in support of Charlie Bird and the Climb with Charlie campaign, a silent collection will be held on the day. Funds raised will be donated to the campaign on behalf of the Club.

Burren day out



Super day out in the Burren last Sunday with these eager Roswayers. Mullaghmore (above) whetted the appetite so we decided to throw in Slieve Roe (below) aswell.

Club walk Sunday 20th March 2022

In a change to the schedule, this week's walk will be Mullaghmore (180m OD) in the Burren National Park, Co. Clare. Easy/moderate grade but terrain uneven and there is some climbing, so boots are necessary. Bring raingear/warm layer/lunch/ water etc.  Duration: 2.5 hours approx. Meet SuperValu, Gort (Eircode H91 HHP6) at 10am to car pool to start of walk. Leaders: C. Dolphin and K. Ward.

Mountaineering Ireland AGM

Mountaineering Ireland's 2022 Annual General Meeting will take place at 7pm Tuesday May 10th 2022 and will be held in Mountaineering Ireland’s head office at Irish Sport HQ, National Sport Campus, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 and via Zoom for those who wish to attend in a virtual capacity. Further details on registering will be circulated in advance of the meeting.

Motions and Nominations

Mountaineering Ireland clubs and individual members are invited to put forward motions for discussion at the AGM and also to nominate members for positions on the board of Mountaineering Ireland. Motions and nominations may be submitted by any member club or by any three full members.

Board members are elected for a three year term.


Motions and nominations must be submitted to the company secretary at secretary@mountaineering.ie or by post to; Company Secretary, Mountaineering Ireland, Irish Sport HQ, National Sports Campus, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 by 5:00pm on Friday 8th April 2022.


All Mountaineering Ireland members have the right to attend the AGM.
