Update on the Joyce Country Challenge Saturday 20th July
Meeting point/base for all walks is Finny Commnity Centre, Co. Mayo (see location above). Four walks on the day, all in aid of Galway/Mayo Hospice Foundation. Registration €30 pp. NB Check registration times at http://www.lakedistricthwc.com/JoyceDetails.aspx as they vary for each walk. 'A' walk is self-navigating and timed. 30kms. 1936m ascent. Starting at Finny, on to Maumtrasna, Devil's Mother, Ail Dubh (road-refreshments), Bunacunneen, Ben Beg, returning to Finny via the Southern Ridge. Details of route on link above. GPX file also available to download there. 'B' walk is lead and graded as moderate due to the two initial rises of the climb. The walk is 7 hours approximately including breaks. After the initial climbs and walk along the top there is a descent to Ail Dubh for lunch break of half an hour where refreshments are provided. There will be an option at this point for transport back to the centre if there are some who feel unable for the remaining 3 hour walk on mostly flat but uneven terrain back to the centre. At the centre there will be further refreshments. It is advisable to bring water, hot drink, and food for the mini-breaks taken along the way. There is also a 'C' walk graded as easy/moderate hill walk with lovely views of Lough na Fooey and Lough Mask especially. This is approximately 4/5 hours duration with break at the top and again refreshments back at the centre. The 'D' walk is mostly road at the base of the 'C' walk hill. Again it will have a break too in the middle and refreshments afterwards back at base. Registration form here Joyce Country Challenge Registration
