Upcoming walking festivals January and February 2020

If you're anxious to test out all that lovely walking gear Santa left under the tree for you, there are a  number of walking festivals are happening over the next couple of months with some fantastic walks. The Glen of Aherlow Walking Festival organised by the Galtee Walking Club will take place next weekend (January 25th-26th) in Tipperary. For further details, including details of A, B and C walks click here: https://www.galteewalkingclub.ie/winterfestival.html.
The Sligo Walking Festival from 7th - 9th February also has something for everyone. The night walk to magical Carrowkeel, which our Club visited a couple of years ago, looks very tempting.

Following our gear training session yesterday (many thanks to those who attended), I'm attaching a very sobering article about a number of rescues carried out by the Kerry MRT in 2017  https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/tv-radio-web/dangerous-intense-disorientating-a-daring-christmas-mountain-rescue-1.3722626.

It's so easy to get caught out at this time of year with shorter days and unpredictable weather. Please make sure you are properly prepared before heading out.
